The basic idea of the project is to investigate the issue of Asperger's syndrome, through the figure of the pianist Glenn Gould, who was diagnosed with this symptomatology. Gould, after a career full of successes and at the height of world fame, decided not to perform in public anymore, to devote himself to a continuous and intense study of his art. A total and isolated dedication that kept him away from public relations.

The genius's difficulty in maintaining contact with the world, his neurotic nature, made him a hermit of his art. Asperger’s syndrome is a highly intellectually functioning spectrum of autism. People with this syndrome have prodigious capacity for memorization and calculation, but unfortunately they lack a vision of the real data. Gould appeared detached from everyday life, completely devoted to classical music, as if playing projected him into another dimension in which the notes became symbols and numbers that led him to divine ecstasy.

The theatrical work we intend to do is to deepen this voluntary autistic isolation devoted to art and dedication to it. A work that iconographically evokes Hopper's paintings, suspended people waiting and waiting for something. Gould speaks all night, the last night before his last concert appearance in New York, with a bartender from the drive-bar, a maternal female figure with a very American nature, who seems to be the only one to understand and listen to his uninterrupted flow of manias, accepting and highlighting their ironic part.
